While we do everything within our control to keep the gas and electricity on, sometimes interruptions are inevitable during an extreme weather event.
Safety is our first priority when restoring your energy supply - your safety and the safety of our staff. While our crews are mindful of the importance of restoring your gas or electricity as quickly as possible, our first responsibility is to make the networks safe.
If your electricity goes out
From the safety of your own home look out the window or contact neighbours to check if the interruption is affecting only your property or if it is more widespread.
If the interruption is only affecting your property, and it is safe to do so, check the circuit breaker or safety switch has not operated. If either of these has caused the interruption, you may need to call a licensed electrical contractor for advice.
If you're experiencing dull or flickering lights, a 'brown out', low voltage or partial supply - turn off and unplug sensitive electrical appliances at the power point. Do not touch your switchboard or anything metal in your home.
If your gas goes out
As a first step, check to see that your meter has not been turned off.
If your gas meter is still on, contact your Gas Retailer - the number is provided on your gas bill.
