Safety is SP AusNet's number one priority - for you and our employees. Our website contains valuable information about staying safe around electricity, including:
If your house or business sustains damage which impacts on your electricity supply, you must have a licensed electrical contractor carry out an inspection and repair any electrical damage before reconnection can occur.
If you notice any hazards such as fallen powerlines or tree branches on powerlines, it's important to keep a safe distance and report the hazard as soon as possible.
Keeping aware - Look up and live
SP AusNet is continuing to work with Energy Safe Victoria to help prevent serious injury nd deaths resulting from vehicles coming into contact with overhead powerlines and underground assets on farms.
Energy Safe Victoria has released a free DVD with full details of how to work safely around overhead powerlines and underground assets to avoid people coming into contact with them. Copies of the DVD can be ordered from the Energy Safe Victoria website or phone 1800 800 156.
SP AusNet and Energy Safe Victoria recommend the following safety advice to truck drivers, machinery operators, property owners and other workers:
- Identify all areas where powerlines cross properties
- Obtain a copy of the ‘No Go Zone’ rules and regulations and study them closely – available from Energy Safe Victoria
- Identify all electrical hazards before starting work. If in any doubt contact SP AusNet
- Monitor weather conditions. Powerlines can sag in extreme heat and sway in strong winds
- Be aware that powerlines can be difficult to see at dawn and dusk
- Remember that electricity can jump gaps
- Remember that no work should be carried out within the confines of powerlines, whether it’s a last resort or not
- Relocate bulk delivery storage sites to a safe area away from powerlines
- Display ‘Look Up And Live’ stickers on any machinery or equipment that is raised overhead
- Obtain the free copy of the ‘Look Up, Look Down – And Live’ DVD from Energy Safe Victoria
