Replacing the meter in every Victorian home and small business is a big job. All of the Victorian Electricity Distribution companies are progressively installing smart meters across Victoria, as mandated by The State Government from 2009 to 2013. Smart meters will therefore be installed a few suburbs at a time.
Once SP AusNet is ready to begin roll out in your area, you will receive two letters from us:
- The first letter will notify you about the smart meter project and will be accompanied by a letter from the State Government and Peter Batchelor, Minister for Energy and Resources.
- The second letter will notify you of the ten day period in which a smart meter installer will be due to come to your premises and install the meter. You may have friends and family who live in different areas to you, and therefore have a different electricity distributor. They may end up getting a smart meter much earlier or later than you do, depending on where they live.
Your neighbour may also have the new smart meter installed before or after you - this just means they are scheduled to receive it at a different time from you.
Remember to look out for the letters from SP AusNet to land in your letterbox, for when smart meters will be coming your way!
